At around 2 years, children commonly know 100 words which increase to about 300 at the age of 3 years. Children are able to form 2 word sentences. Some children are able to follow commands and are can recognise their parents as "mama" or "dada."
- Talk to your children like you would to anyone else. Let them see how adults communicate.
- Read books to them and tell them to repeat easy words.
- Make them follow simple commands; for example ask them to get you a ball.
- Make them play with other children their age, other than each other, as they will learn to communicate with other children to make them understand what they are saying.
If your sons do not speak even a few words it is advisable to visit their paediatrician. Sometimes difficulty hearing or fluid in the ears, can result in children not being able to speak at a younger age.
