The ideal age to start toilet training is 18 months to 2 years. Many children do not achieve complete training until about 3 years of age. And for some children, it takes a few weeks and for others, it takes more than a year. However, do not lose hope. Some techniques you can adopt are as follows:
- Ensure you make your baby sit on her potty every 15 minutes to half an hour, with her underwear down. During the other moments, she can continue her other activities.
- If you are comfortable you can visually show her how women use the bathroom, by using it yourself . After you finish and flush, you can tell her it's her turn to do the same.
- Some parents have even adopted allowing their children to roam naked for a little while, as they will have nowhere to urinate or defecate and they may turn to the potty if guided as the object for such purposes.
The main thing as a parent is to be patient as all children learn differently. Take a break for a couple of weeks and then start again. Before you know it your baby will be using the potty like a pro.
