Your daughter should ideally be sleeping for 12 - 14 hours a day. It is good that she sleeps straight for 8 hours in the night, as this gives you time to sleep too. However, her daytime naps are less in number.
- Make sure that your baby is active throughout the day. This will make her tired and more inclined to go in for a nap.
- Give her milk around nap times. Therefore she can associate milk with sleep. Babies also tend to sleep when their tummies are full.
- During nap times make sure that the house is quite and there are no disturbances. You can also darken the room when putting her to sleep.
There is no need to be disheartened if your baby doesn't get all the sleep that she requires. Some babies function differently from the others. If your baby isn't active and lethargic throughout the day, then it would be essential to consult with a paediatrician.
