Guthrie test is used to check for the levels of an amino acid, phenylalanine. In a condition called phenylketonuria, there is an increase in this amino acid content. This is a dangerous genetic condition, which requires immediate treatment. Therefore this is an important screening test which is compulsory to be conducted at birth.
Thanks Dr. My LO is preterm baby 36 week. And his test for Cystic Fibrosis came positive. Doctor said it can be false positive as he is preterm. What should I do now?
You can conduct the test again after a few months when your baby's lungs are more mature. You can also get a recommendation from the paediatrician you are currently with, as to what is the appropriate time for a repeat test.
