By 3 months of age, most babies start to develop a regular sleeping pattern. The total number of hours your baby would ideally sleep for around this time is 14 hours with 2 or 3 naps during the day. However this system does not apply to all babies, and some sleep less or more than the normal.
- You need to ensure that your baby's room is silent with no disturbances when it is time for him to sleep.
- Rock him from side to side, and sing him a lullaby this helps soothe some babies which will make them fall asleep.
- You should try a nice lukewarm bath with a breastfeeding session that will make him feel comfortable and fall to sleep.
- You can opt to swaddle him in some cloths which will make him feel snug and comfortable and more inclined to fall asleep.
All these are just suggestions and will take some time for your son to adapt to. You need to ensure that if he continues to stay awake for most of the day it is best to check in with a paediatrician who can examine him. This way they will be able to advise you accordingly on how to proceed. The first few months of your baby's life is going to be a new experience for you as a parent. It is important to remain calm and approach each new encounter with patience.
