During the first year, children learn a lot of words. By 2 years of age, your child should know around 100 words. And she should also be able to form 2 - 3 word sentences. The main grasp of such comes in between 18 - 24 months. So at this age, it is vital to expose your child to as much information as possible.
- You should start by reading to her daily. Opt for an hour during the day and also read to her before her bedtime. Make her repeat easy words after you. In the book point out to pictures and tell her what they are, like dog, cat etc.
-Even when you'll go out, point to trees, animals, people and tell her what those things are as well.
- Talk to her as an adult. Ask her questions to which she will respond to you with either pointing or trying to say the word.
- Make her play with children her age, this will make her more likely to start communicating with them to get her point across.
There is no need to worry. With time she will be able to speak. If she is babbling while playing or turning towards where people are talking or asking questions she will soon be speaking, as she is starting to understand words. Just continue to foster her curiosity and with time you will see results.
