The fruit puree is the first choice for all mothers with babies of 6 months and older. The babies also enjoy these fruit purees because of their tenderness and sweetness. This article will assist new parents by providing fruit purees recipe for their babies.
What is a Fruit Puree?
The babies for the few initial months feed on breastmilk because of their slow adaptation to evolved digestion habits. The breast milk has all the necessary nutrients which are required at this age of the baby. Gradually, mothers try to include other solid foods which are easy to gulp in their baby diet. The fruit purees are mashed/cooked fruit substitutes that are rich in vitamins and nutrients in order to give your baby a healthy diet. They are easy to digest.
What is the Ideal age for purees?
The fruit purees are very simple to make and have a high nutrient value. The introduction of purees is usually done by banana puree. This puree is the most basic and easiest baby food which doesn’t even require cooking and can be given since month 4.
However, the ideal age to introduce fruit purees is 6 months. The citrus and tart fruits like orange and pineapple are not advisable for infants below 12 months because they might pick up allergic reactions. Similarly, the babies only above 12 months are given passion fruits puree.
General recipe for Fruit Purees
- The fruits should be steamed/cooked except for bananas. This protects the nutrients of the food.
- Next, is peel off the fruit and mash them with the milk (milk could be formula milk or breast milk).
- Since the baby is shifting from liquids to solids, the consistency of these purees should be running as it is easier for the baby to swallow it.

Hey, i haven’t tried avocados, my lo is 7th month.please advice me on how to check the right ones!!
Hi Sreena,
We are glad that you asked. To select the right avocado for your little one, purchase the avocado that looks ripe and ready to eat. Look for bumpy skin in the avocado which has a dark green shade. When you gently squeeze the avocado, it should be firm but not rock hard. Because avocados which are rock hard are not yet ripe, and the ones that are extremely soft are over ripe.
Another way to check if the avocado is ripe, look around the fruit’s stem. Yellow stem indicates ripeness, while brown stem generally means it could be overripe and may be brown from inside.
